Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara L Oliver.
Hi Sara L, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am Sara L Oliver and as a woman in my 50’s I’ve decided to stop trying to fit into any one box.
If you listen to my music playlist you will find a representation of nearly every genre and that is probably the best metaphor to describe myself. I’m a middle child who has Mexican heritage but grew up in a predominantly white church culture, have friends from every background, married an African American man (together we have three biracial boys), and a Gemini to boot. I’ve had 20 years of experience working in the medical field, but was always looking for a way out because I wanted more in life. I am a big believer in trusting ‘the process’ and being open to new/different opportunities. Both of those have led me to where I am now- actively creating a life filled with love, laughter, health, purpose, and amazing connections to wonderful people.
My time in the dialysis space was tough. I stayed in it because it was stable work that fit the needs of our family at the time, but it was quite taxing and I spent a lot of years hating it, knowing there was a different life I wanted. The past 10 years have been spent learning how to be more fully myself. That has involved healing childhood traumas that shaped lifelong patterns. I learned how to be present in more moments, embracing being uncomfortable while I learned new skills. I’ve spent years encouraging friends and clients to step into their own spotlights and have now realized that it’s time for me to do the same. I’m loving meeting other local creatives, taking on new digital design clients, and no longer hiding my voice, my insights, experiences, or myself from the world.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Leaving the ‘safety’ and stability of a W2 job has had its moments of being unsettled. This has both challenged and strengthened my practice of trusting the process and being open to opportunities that come my way. It has been scary and challenging and so very worth it all.
My current challenge is stepping forward instead of hiding behind the scenes in support roles!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My work mirrors my personal life in that we have never neatly fit into any one category or box. I have a background in the medical field, and am currently doing IT work and creative work like social media management, digital designs from flyers to websites, as well as building a platform to share what I’ve learned via my exploration of somatics, energetics, and the insights that reveal themselves when we are open to receiving them. On social media I’m most known for my posts about coffee, midlife outfits, and sharing personal insights.
My husband and I own Arts Technology Entertainment. We both provide IT services to local and national businesses and then branch out into creative areas like video editing, audio/visual recording, social media content creation and direction, as well as website and graphic designs. I enjoy the creative process and love seeing a vision come to life. What sets me apart is my attention to detail and the intentionality I bring to each project. It makes me really proud to see work I’ve done being received well.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
I find the biggest happiness in the smallest things- the first sip of coffee, random I love you texts from loved ones, sunsets, watching someone experience joy, new growth on a plant, and deep conversations to name a few. I’ve learned that true happiness does not come from perfectly curated social media posts or grand gestures. True happiness is found woven throughout life in small, still moments.
