Today we’d like to introduce you to Madalena Medeiros.
Hi Madalena, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
While I have been practicing yoga for over 20 years, in 2020, I became certified to teach yoga as an RYT-200. After retiring from a career in academia, I began teaching yoga classes in the fall of 2022. I soon realized that I wanted to dive much deeper into understanding both the physical and the mental healing benefits of yoga, so I enrolled in a three-year yoga therapy training course. After completing my three-year yoga therapy program and becoming a certified Yoga Therapist (C-IAYT) with the International Association of Yoga Therapists. At that time, in addition to teaching yoga classes, I began providing individualized yoga therapy sessions to private clients in my community. While doing this work, I continued my training and education in wellness, and in 2024 became an RYT-500.
As a practicing yoga therapist, I teach my clients to use therapeutic yogic techniques to alleviate physical and mental conditions, including chronic musculoskeletal pain, digestive disorders, autoimmune diseases, respiratory and cardiovascular conditions, osteoporosis, fatigue, insomnia, anxiety and depression in addition to other conditions.
Using a holistic, client centered approach, my clients learn to use safe, science-based yogic techniques including physical yoga “asanas”, breath work, and meditation practices that are effective in promoting healing and well-being.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road to yoga and to yoga therapy have felt very natural to me, and I have always felt as though I am doing exactly what I am meant to be doing. I am so grateful to be able to bring this healing practice to my students and my clients.
As you know, we’re big fans of Madeline Medeiros Yoga Therapyt. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Yoga Therapy is an emerging, research-based model for alleviating physical and mental health conditions. As a yoga therapist, I teach my clients yogic techniques and principles that allow them to live healthier, happier and fuller lives.
As a long-time yoga practitioner, I witnessed the physical and mental healing effects of my practice in my own life and I knew I wanted to be able to share this incredible practice with others. I had realized that a regular yoga practice can heal us from the inside out; through the use of physical yoga, breath-work and mindfulness practices our bodies and our minds can return to their natural healthful balance.
I strive to provide a holistic client-centered and compassionate approach while empowering my clients and students to learn and safely use research-based yogic practices and principles that promote healing and well-being.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I have a whole library of yoga books, but those that I turn to the most often are “The Inspired Yoga Teacher,” and “Inside the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.” I also continually refer to books of anatomy and condition-specific yoga therapy texts that are part of my library. I listen to a number of podcasts and read a variety of articles and other publications on wellness and healing.
