Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacquelyn De Longe.
Hi Jacquelyn, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hi. I’m Jacquelyn De Longe, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and owner of State Street Therapy. My personal experiences growing up informed the direction of my career. As a mother of two, I was initially drawn to the public school system to work with teen and parents around behavioral and learning issues. From there seeing how much a child’s support system and environment affected their potential, my interest focused on working with adults and led me to move into individual, couple’s, and group therapy at a local group practice. Here, I gained more experience in couples work, lgbtqia+ community, and sex therapy. And after a few years, I am proud to say in 2025, I opened my own private practice, State Street Therapy.
Having experience divorce in my childhood and my own marriage, I knew there was need for a safe and supportive space to work through it, so I created Scarlet D: Divorce Support Group. I present specialty topics to trainees entering the field, such as, divorce, narcissism, and attachment styles. Through all this, I have grown confident enough to share my experiences live on stage in storytelling series in Los Angeles.
Having our stories be witnessed is one of the most compassionate and empowering experiences that we can give each other.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting out in this field is very challenging! A big struggle I faced was me having to do my own work on myself. Yep, therapists do their own therapy. In my early Associate years, working for free or very little pay brought out issues around self-criticism, scarcity and anxiety, especially as a single mom of two kids. I had to take what I had learned in my degree and apply it to myself. I challenged the negative thoughts and practiced questioning my thoughts/feelings/behaviors to separate my current reality from my childhood experience and previous relationships. I had to move forward and proactively respond to the present, not emotionally react to stressful situations of the past, most of which were out of my control.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about State Street Therapy?
State Street Therapy, my private practice focuses on helping individuals, couples and teens address issues around anxiety, ADHD, OCD, narcissistic recovery, divorce and neurodivergence. I have trained in a variety of modalities to support the person in front of me and I show up in the room with a communicative direct style. I run a biannual 8 week divorce support group in person and online. For this most recent group, I developed a workbook on divorce recovery, which will hopefully available on the website and amazon soon!
In my personal and professional life, I am seeing the frequency of relationship questions, especially around communication skills for gen Z and gen Alpha. Inspired by my generation’s Dear Abby column, I recently created a tiktok page “Ask Ms. J” giving brief 30-60 answers to common questions, in hopes to help a younger generation connect with each other and navigate red flags, repair and conflict.
I really do want to help people feel good, get strong, and live bold fulfilling lives on their terms. Communication and self confidence is such a part of it. I feel we are all much more alike than we are different and I hope my office can provide a supportive space for self discovery, healing and empowerment.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Believe it or not I was a very very shy child. I grew up in the Southern California suburbs and loved the beach. I was active in sports and always had lots of ideas. I was creative but introverted and socially anxious. I have fond memories of my mom making me a fresh batch of pancakes for breakfast every morning. My dog and cat were probably my two best dress-up friends and there are pictures in the family photo album to prove it. Reading and drawing were where my imagination thrived. I loved narrative stories of quests and the underdog and I still do. Art became a safe place for my curiosity and self expression, so much so, that I followed my passion and attained a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts.
