Meet Rachel Corvese of Central Coast (California)

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Corvese.

Hi Rachel, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
The Vision Sanctuary started as a group art studio in 2022 and has blossomed into a community gallery, classroom, art studio space, and gift shop. I (Rachel) spearheaded the space after returning from studying at the Vienna Academy of Visionary Art. I knew that Santa Cruz has incredible artists that could keep a community space running, and here we are 4 years later!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Our small but mighty space has been used for so many creations and connections, and has been the biggest struggle to keep up to date. Sometimes we don’t have enough people participating, and sometimes we have too many people for the size of our space!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Our gallery is filled predominantly with 2D artists making drawings and paintings in the Visionary style, stemming from Surrealism and featuring bright colors and symbolism from around the globe.
As a community space, we are becoming known for having locally-made festival fashion, 2D visionary art, art classes, and community events all at many access points.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Making my first dress. It was green and pink fabric with flamingos on it, and it was basically a tube with straps. I was so proud of my creation!
