Today we’d like to introduce you to Tommie Morrow Jr..
Hi Tommie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Blue Wagon Ministry began in 2019 when God placed it on my heart to serve people experiencing homelessness and make love tangible. From that moment, I have been in relentless pursuit of that calling.
What started as a simple desire to serve has grown into a 501(c)(3) nonprofit providing food, essential supplies, encouragement, and connections to detox, treatment, and other resources throughout San Diego.
For me, Blue Wagon Ministry is more than an organization. It is a calling to love God, serve His people, and remind people that they are seen, valued, and never forgotten.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. Building Blue Wagon Ministry has come with financial challenges, limited resources, transportation issues, and the everyday difficulties of running a nonprofit while continuing to show up consistently for the people we serve.
There have been moments when I wasn’t sure how we were going to keep going, but God has always made a way. Every challenge has strengthened my faith and made me even more determined. I’ve learned that when God gives you a purpose, the road may not always be easy, but you stay faithful and keep moving forward.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Blue Wagon Ministry is a faith based nonprofit dedicated to serving individuals experiencing homelessness in San Diego. We provide food, clothing, hygiene supplies, case management, detox and treatment referrals, and most importantly, genuine human connection.
What sets us apart is that we believe in meeting people exactly where they are, without judgment. We do not just hand someone a meal and move on. We build relationships, learn their stories, and help connect them to resources that can create lasting change.
I am most proud of the trust we have built within the community and the incredible volunteers and partners who continue to show up. At Blue Wagon Ministry, our goal is simple: making love tangible.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something people may not know is that Blue Wagon Ministry has changed me just as much as I hope it has impacted the people we serve. Every Saturday, I walk away reminded of the importance of gratitude, humility, and simply being present for another person. I started this ministry to serve others, but through this journey, God has continued to work on me too.
