Conversations with Monica Hang

Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica Hang.

Hi Monica, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started LunaLuxe as a creative outlet and a way to build something of my own, and what started small quickly grew into a full-time business. I began with permanent jewelry and eventually expanded into ready-to-wear jewelry and pop-up events throughout Southern California.

As I gained experience, I realized how much I enjoyed not only creating jewelry but also teaching others. That led me to launch LunaLuxe Permanent Jewelry Training, where I now teach aspiring artists the hands-on skills, theory, and business side of starting their own permanent jewelry business. Seeing my students go from learning the basics to confidently creating jewelry on their own has become one of my favorite parts of what I do.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not. There’s so much you don’t realize you have to learn when starting a new business from creating content and finding your target audience to finding pop-up markets that truly align with your brand. Another big challenge was finding my niche when it came to content and learning what resonated with my audience.

One of my biggest personal challenges was having the courage to grow beyond what I was comfortable with and expand into teaching permanent jewelry. Taking that leap was scary, but it has become one of the most rewarding parts of my business.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My work centers around permanent jewelry, where I create custom pieces designed to be worn and enjoyed every day. I’ve also expanded LunaLuxe into freshwater pearls and jade jewelry, with a focus on modernizing these timeless materials and making them feel fresh and relevant to younger generations.

More recently, I launched LunaLuxe Permanent Jewelry Training, where I teach aspiring artists the hands-on skills, theory, and business side of starting their own permanent jewelry business. Watching my students gain confidence and build something of their own has become one of my favorite parts of what I do.

What I’m most proud of is being a mother to my three children and a wife to the most loving and supportive husband, while still making time for something that brings me joy and fulfills a part of me beyond my roles at home.

What sets LunaLuxe apart is the genuine connection I have with my clients. I never want anyone to feel like they’re just another transaction. I truly enjoy meeting people, hearing their stories, and creating an experience that goes beyond the jewelry itself.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I think there’s still a lot of room for growth in the permanent jewelry industry, especially as it continues to become more mainstream. For LunaLuxe, I’d love to eventually host larger training sessions, expand into a storefront, and develop a luxury fine-jewelry line with more solid gold and higher-end pieces.

But right now, I’m really enjoying the work-life balance I’ve created. I’m excited to grow, but I also want that growth to be intentional and allow me to continue enjoying the business and being present for my family.
